The Butler Dance Education Center - NOW OPEN!

Ballet Austin's Butler Community School was founded in 2007 to provide expanded dance, fitness and community education opportunities to a wider audience. At its core is the following mission:
THE BUTLER COMMUNITY SCHOOL is committed to excellence and accessibility by providing quality instruction in dance and movement to people of all ages, skill levels, and economic and cultural backgrounds.
THE BUTLER COMMUNITY SCHOOL serves people inspired to dance and attempts to reduce the barriers that inhibit participation with Ballet Austin. Our community school provides opportunities to: 1) learn technique in ballet and other dance styles; 2) explore dance performance; and 3) improve physical conditioning.
THE BUTLER COMMUNITY SCHOOL engages our diverse constituencies in the broad continuum of performance and educational activities that make Ballet Austin a leading innovator among Professional Urban Dance Companies.

Ballet Austin Academy 2007/2008
Founded in 1956 by Barbara Carson, the Ballet Austin Academy is the official ballet school of Ballet Austin and is committed to providing the highest quality dance instruction to its students. Currently, the Academy has more than 800 students, making it one of the largest ballet schools in the United States. The Academy is comprised of 6 divisions of study and each division has, at its core, a codified syllabus designed to facilitate the maximum physical, mental and emotional development appropriate to the age and physical ability of each student. Ballet Austin Academy offers classes including creative movement, pre-ballet and ballet. The ballet program starts at age 8 and continues through the Professional Division. The main focus of this program is to provide the training required for a professional career in dance.
Throughout the year, students may be selected by the artistic staff to perform with Ballet Austin or Ballet Austin II in full-length productions. Only Academy students are eligible to audition for roles in these productions, including Ballet Austin's annual production of The Nutcracker. Over 150 Academy students augment Ballet Austin’s 20 Professional dancers and 10 apprentices in this main stage production.
The Ballet Austin Academy has as its mission the provision of quality dance education with the word"education" viewed in its broadest sense. The Academy provides dance education that is an excellent enhancement to academic education.
Students develop skills associated with academic success including self-discipline, self-confidence and the ability to concentrate and collaborate. Our students recognize the importance of quality of process and quality of work and they set high standards for themselves in all areas. More...
