Experience workshopping dance in a fun build-it-from-the-beginning music video dance class. While this is not a dance technique class, Videodance™ focuses on 'workshopping dance' and experiencing the fun of putting together music video choreography. Learn the choreography, sing along if you'd like, and dance it out with the crowd! We'll turn up the music, teach you the moves, and you will have the time of your life!

It's both dancer-friendly and non-dancer friendly. Everyone welcome! For all ages, sizes, experience levels and genders! Learn the choreography full out or modify the steps as you feel comfortable.

For those who have never had a ballet class, this workshop teaches ballet from the absolute beginning. At the end of session you will have learned some of the fundamental positions, vocabulary, and basic principles of ballet. Bring ballet shoes and step into a ballet studio at Ballet Austin. Beginning Ballet 2 for is a workshop for adults who wish to continue the work of the Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop, or have had an introduction to basic ballet.

The Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop continues the work of Absolute Beginning Ballet and Beginning Ballet 2 workshops. It is also open to anyone who has had basic barre and center.

Beginning Ballet 3 will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes offered through the BCS. The Beginning Ballet 3 workshop will add more complex combinations and center work, and will learn jumps. Ballet develops confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness and is a great workout for adults.

The 4-wk short course costs $70.

Beginning Pointe Workshop for Adults (6 wk Workshop)

Mondays, January 26 - March 2 / 8:15pm - 9:15pm

Whether it is to fulfill a lifelong dream, or to re-visit the days of ballet class, many adults love the thought of taking a ballet class en pointe. The 6-week workshop teaches basic beginning pointe work to the intermediate level dancer.

Classes will take the students through fundamental pointe work and exercises. For the safety of the students, it is highly recommended that they take one to two ballet technique classes a week leading up to and during enrollment in the pointe workshop.

The workshop includes 6 1-hour classes.

(must be 17 or older with previous ballet experience at the intermediate level. Instructor's approval required)

Winter Ballet Intensive for Adults 2015 (2-day intensive Ballet Workshop)

The Adult Winter Ballet Intensive is held at Ballet Austin on Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4, 2015.

The Winter Ballet Intensive is designed specifically for adults and older teens with a passion for ballet and a love for dance. The program offers an intense schedule of classes over two days.

Classes offered will include ballet technique for the intermediate level* ballet dancer, classical and contemporary ballet variations (Don Quixote: Quiteria's Variation (The Fan) Act III) , and contemporary dance. Work on and improve ballet technique, learn variations, and meet new people.

The weekend ends with an informal presentation on Sunday for family and friends showcasing what you have learned. Professional and experienced instructors. State-of-the-art facility.

*Intermediate level ballet experience to participate. Do not need experience in other dance styles.

The Ultimate Dance Team Intensive for Dance and Drill teams, POM and Cheer Squads, competition dancers, and those who aspire to be!

  • Turns & leaps - work on switch leaps, switch straddle, calypsos, pirouettes, fouettes, illusions and more!
  • Stretch & strengthen - work on fexibility and strengthening arms and legs.

    Absolute Beginning Modern Dance for Adults

    It is never too late to learn anything new, but Modern dance can be especially fun for adults.

    Modern dance is an expressive and highly individualized dance form. The body is fully integrated in modern dance, often utilizing internal rhythms and movement concepts. With technique less restrictive than classical ballet, modern is the perfect jumping off point for self-expression.

    This workshop will teach modern technique from the very beginning, introducing modern concepts through exercises and choreography designed to promote proper alignment, strength, flexibility and coordination. Taught by Alex Miller

    Intro to Horton-based Modern Dance

    The Horton Based Modern Dance Workshop is based on the principles of the Lester Horton Technique, as taught at the Ailey School at Alvin Ailey in NYC.

    Horton technique emphasizes the whole body approach including; flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness to allow freedom of expression. This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of the Horton technique. Horton was interested in clearly defined shapes, as well as how a dancer can move through these shapes with energy and use of space.

    No previous experience with Horton technique is required. This workshop will offer an introduction to the principles of Horton teaching, and provide a great workout!

    Brazilian Carnaval Dance Bootcamp - Viva Carnaval Brasileiro!

    Brazil is internationally famous for its colorful, high-energy "Carnaval," the pre-Lent celebration that packs in nearly a week of non-stop music and dance. Whether it's the vibrant, African-influenced street parades of Salvador, Bahia or the glittering technicolor parade performed by thousands in Rio de Janeiro's Sambadrome, Brazilian Carnaval is a celebration of life through music and dance.

    You don't have to fly to Brazil to experience the fun! This high-intensity workshop will introduce you to some of the most popular dance styles seen in Brazil during Carnaval.     Hula (Beginning Level) - Hawaiian Dance (6 weeks)

    Hula dancing is a beautiful and graceful form of dance combining foot movement along with meaningful hand gestures to tell a story or teach a lesson.

    Whether you have a trip planned to the Hawaiian Islands or just want to learn something new, this is a fun workshop.

    If you've never taken hula before, this is for you! Learn hula from the very beginning and experience a culture that is full of beauty and exciting adventure. Hula classes include dances in the ancient form of hula (hula kahiko) as well as the more contemporary form of hula (hula 'auana). Hawaiian history and culture are also discussed as they relate to each hula learned in class.

    Intro to Salsa! - A Latin Dance Workshop

    Mondays, January 12 - February 23 / 7:45pm - 8:45pm (6-week workshop - NO class on 1/19 due to MLK Birthday)

    A fun six-week workshop that will provide the foundation for Salsa dancing. Especially for partners wanting to dance together, but partners are not required! Fun for singles too!

    Participants will learn the basic Salsa steps, basic turns, the importance of the "Cuban Motion", and plenty of Salsa attitude! The basic steps of Merengue* and Bachata* will also be taught during the 6 weeks.

    All dances learned are perfect for social settings and club dancing, but you will also enjoy just for the fun of it! 

    No dance experience is necessary. Partners enrolling together is encouraged, but not required. Don't have a partner? We still have a place for you! (each persons will need to enroll individually)

    Better Balance & Movement Workshop

    This workshop will focus on promoting and maintaining balance, coordination, and posture through a series of simple brain and muscle exercises. The goal of ongoing balance training is to teach your brain how to quickly activate the right muscles in your body at the right time to help you keep your balance.

    FALLS HAPPEN: According to the CDC, 1 out of every 3 people over age 65 falls once a year.

    We depend on an intricate balance system to keep us upright. The inner ear, which senses head motions, plays an important role. So does the body's somatosensory system, which relays the feeling of the ground beneath your feet. And, of course, vision tips you off to obstacles around you. The brain takes in all this information, plans movements, and carries them out.

    This workshop is excellent for people of all ages, but especially beneficial to the older adult or those dealing with the affects of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. It can also be helpful for individuals recovering from injury, experiencing declining vision, hearing and muscle strength.

    Mommy & Baby Fit - Babywearing Barre Workout

    A workout for new moms without needing a babysitter!

    Thursdays, January 15 - February 5 / 10:45am - 11:30am (4 wks)

    Making exercise a priority is a challenge for new moms. Are you ready to get your workout in while your baby stays close? Bring your baby and your baby carrier and head to the ballet barre for a 45-minute barre workout that offers a blend of Pilates and ballet fitness principles. Moms enjoy a low impact-toning workout while babies experience movement, rocking motions, soothing music and added time close to mom's body.

    Babywearing Barre Workout is great for all fitness levels and no experience is necessary! Expecting moms who want to get a jump on their post-natal conditioning are welcome! Bring a comfortable and secure baby carrier with support for baby and mom. Wear comfortable workout clothing, ballet shoes or sneakers, and bring a water bottle. For a most successful experience, bring your baby fed and dressed so they do not become too warm during the workout. Start early setting the "active life" example for your children!

    Foam rollers are an inexpensive and versatile piece of equipment that can help you with everything from working out the knots in your muscles to sculpting and stretching out before and after a workout.

    If you aren't using one you're missing out!

    But what is a foam roller and how do you use it correctly to get the most benefit? 4 weeks of earning how to ldeep massage and stretch will leave you wanting more. This 45-minute muscle balancing class will help your body relax, stretch out muscles, and release tension. You will feel the difference in your muscles. An excellent class for all ranges of physical ability. Whether you are rehabilitating after an injuring, want to learn how to stretch it out after an intensive workout, or just love how you feel after a good stretch and massage, this class is for you.

    Foam rollers are provided or you may bring your own. OPTP Therapeutic-quality Foam Rollers are for sale at Ballet Austin for $25 if you would like to purchase your own.

    Kettlebell Wake-up 30-minute Fat Blaster Workout - An intense early-morning downtown workout.

    Wednesdays, January 14 - February 4 / 7:00am - 7:30am (4 weeks)

    GET OUT OF BED AND PUSH YOURSELF INTO SHAPE IN 2015!

    Wake up with a kettlebells!

    This early-morning (7:00am) intense and invigorating workout is just 30 minutes...a great downtown, before-work, mid-week workout.

    This is a high intensity cardio workout to help you build muscle, increase power and get lean, all in just 30 minutes a week for 4 weeks to jumpstart your 2015. The average kettlebell workout melts away 20 calories a minute, according to a recent study from the American Council on Exercise. That's 300 calories blasted just 15 minutes!

    This funny-looking iron weight may seem intimidating, but a kettlebell is your best friend when it comes to tight, toned abs and a fat-blasting cardio workout. Kettlebells are provided.

    Absolute Beginning Yoga - YOGA 101

    This 6-week workshop is perfect for the beginner yogis and yoginis. Being a beginner is never easy, but this class will help ease you into your comfort zone. In this course you will learn a variety of yoga poses, proper alignment, and pranayama (breath work).

    Pilates Mat Basics - This is Pilates for Beginners! (6 weeks)

    Returning in January

    Pilates has become very popular and for good reason. Our body movement originates from the center of our body and the muscles there help us to maintain our body's balance and posture. This is what Pilates is all about; core strength and flexibility, and posture.

    This Pilates Mat workshop will introduce and work on the basics of Pilates and provide an affordable Pilates option. At the completion of the workshop you will not only feel the benefits, you will be ready to move on to other Pilates-based classes or consider appointments in the Pilates Center. Working against resistance is essential to the Pilates exercises, which are designed to train the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks; the core. But you can accomplish this using either a mat, where your own body weight creates resistance, or a reformer, where pulleys and springs create resistance.

    By working the core muscles you improve strength and posture and develop a lean, long line. Taught by Certified Pilates Instructor.

    A 6-wk workshop costs $85.

    Pilates Pink Ribbon Post-operative Workout

    Tuesdays, January 13 - March 17 / 1:00pm - 1:45pm


    The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program is a post-operative exercise program for women recovering from breast cancer surgery. The Pink Ribbon Program will help stretch and strengthen the shoulder, chest, back, and abdominal muscles, allowing women to regain full range of motion to those areas affected by breast cancer surgery.

    This program is suitable whether your surgery was recent or several years ago, but it is recommended that women should wait 4-6 weeks post op before enrolling in the course. The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program will offer strengthening, self-esteem and quality of life to breast cancer survivors. The program works in conjunction with your doctor's recommendations for an exercise program.

    Personal instruction given by Vlada Sheber, Ballet Austin's Pilates Program Director & Certified Core Connections Pilates Instructor. Ms. Sheber is a Post-Rehabilitative Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist with the The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program.
