Come Videodance™! Sign up for some pure dance fun!

Not a dance technique class, but rather, Videodance™ focuses on 'workshopping dance'. Experience what it's like to put together a music video and dance it out with the crowd! We'll turn up the music, teach you the moves, and you will have the time of your life!

It's both dancer-friendly and non-dancer friendly. Learn the choreography full out or modify the steps as you feel comfortable.

Each class will start with a short warm-up and then move into a fun and fast-paced class learning the choreography of the featured music video artist.

A ballet class for adults to learn ballet! It's never too late for adults to learn ballet. This workshop is one of the most popular we offer. And yes, it is ABSOLUTE BEGINNING!

For those who have never had a ballet class, this workshop teaches ballet from the absolute beginning. At the end of session you will have learned some of the fundamental positions, vocabulary, and basic principles of ballet. Bring ballet shoes and step into a ballet studio at Ballet Austin. Fulfill a dream and learn something new!

Beginning Ballet 2 Workshop (6 wk Workshop)

Beginning Ballet 2 for is a workshop for adults who wish to continue the work of the Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop, or have had an introduction to basic ballet.

This workshop will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes or the Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop offered through Ballet Austin's Butler Community School. The Beginning Ballet 2 workshop will add more complex combinations and center work, and will develop confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness.

Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop (6 wk Workshop)

Sundays, September 14 - October 19 / 3:15pm - 4:30pm

The Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop continues the work of Absolute Beginning Ballet and Beginning Ballet 2 workshops. It is also open to anyone who has had basic barre and center.

Beginning Ballet 3 will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes offered through the BCS. The Beginning Ballet 3 workshop will add more complex combinations and center work, and will learn jumps. Ballet develops confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness and is a great workout for adults.

A 6-wk workshops cost $100. Enroll by August 22 and get the "early bird" rate of $90.


Beginning Pointe Workshop for Adults (6 wk Workshop)

Mondays, September 8 - October 13 / 8:15pm - 9:15pm

Whether it is to fulfill a lifelong dream, or to re-visit the days of ballet class, many adults love the thought of taking a ballet class en pointe. The 6-week workshop teaches basic beginning pointe work to the intermediate level dancer.

Classes will take the students through fundamental pointe work and exercises. For the safety of the students, it is highly recommended that they take one to two ballet technique classes a week leading up to and during enrollment in the pointe workshop.

The workshop includes 6 1-hour classes.

(must be 18 or older with previous ballet experience at the intermediate level. Instructor's approval required)

Winter Ballet Intensive for Adults 2015 (2-day intensive Ballet Workshop)

The Adult Winter Ballet Intensive is held at Ballet Austin on Saturday, January 3 and Sunday, January 4, 2015.

Ballet Austin's Butler Community School Winter Ballet Intensive is designed specifically for older teens and adults with a passion for ballet and a love for dance. The program offers an intense schedule of classes over two days.

Classes offered will include ballet technique for the intermediate level* ballet dancer, classical and contemporary ballet variations, and contemporary jazz. Work on and improve ballet technique, learn variations, and meet new people.

The weekend with an informal presentation on Sunday for family and friends showcasing what you have learned. Professional and experienced instructors. State-of-the-art facility.

*Intermediate level ballet experience to participate. Do not need experience in other dance styles.

Absolute Beginning Modern Dance for Adults
(6 weeks)

Saturdays, September 13 - October 18 / 2:00pm - 3:00pm

It is never too late to learn anything new, but Modern dance can be especially fun for adults.

Modern dance is an expressive and highly individualized dance form. The body is fully integrated in modern dance, often utilizing internal rhythms and movement concepts. With technique less restrictive than classical ballet, modern is the perfect jumping off point for self-expression.

This workshop will teach modern technique from the very beginning, introducing modern concepts through exercises and choreography designed to promote proper alignment, strength, flexibility and coordination. Taught by Alex Miller

Beginning Brazilian Dance Workshop

Thursdays, September 11 - October 16 / 6:00pm - 7:00pm
(4 weeks)

You don't have to fly to Brazil to experience the fun of Brazilian dance! Brazil is a melting pot of fun music and fun dance!

Brazil is internationally famous for its colorful, high-energy "Carnaval," the pre-Lent celebration that packs in nearly a week of non-stop music and dance.

This workshop will introduce students to samba, the national dance of Brazil, as well as other styles of dance. Lots of fun and energy

All levels are welcome but is geared to the beginner level. Absolutely no experience necessary; just the ability to let loose and go wild!

Hula (Beginning Level) - Hawaiian Dance (6 weeks)

Hula dancing is a beautiful and graceful form of dance combining foot movement along with meaningful hand gestures to tell a story or teach a lesson.

Whether you have a trip planned to the Hawaiian Islands or just want to learn something new, this is a fun workshop.

If you've never taken hula before, this is for you! Learn hula from the very beginning and experience a culture that is full of beauty and exciting adventure. Hula classes include dances in the ancient form of hula (hula kahiko) as well as the more contemporary form of hula (hula 'auana). Hawaiian history and culture are also discussed as they relate to each hula learned in class.

Hula (Elementary Level) - Hawaiian Dance

Hula dancing is a beautiful and graceful form of dance combining foot movement along with meaningful hand gestures to tell a story or teach a lesson.

This is the second level in our hula workshop series. Elementary hula picks up where Beginning Hula left off. If you have taken Beginning Hula or have had some hula experience in the past, this workshop is for you to continue to learn and experience the beautiful dance of the Hawaiian islands. Gain more knowledge and hone your hula skills, perfecting your skills in the hula basics and learning more hawaiian dance choreography. You will love the story-telling aspect of hula.

DIVA Dance! (3 weeks)

Discover your inner 'diva confidence' by learning to dance to one of today's most popular divas.

Think Mariah, Britney, Beyoncé, Christina, and other female music artists.

Upcoming workshop: "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston. 

Each workshop will be centered around learning a combination from start to finish over the course of the workshop. Begin with a warm-up and then move into attitude and across the floor working on jazz walks, strutting, pivots, and of course…your diva attitude! Put all that together with some fun choreography to a popular song, and you have a dance class full of female power and confidence boosting moves!

Jazz Turns & Jumps Workshop for Adults (6 weeks)

Are you looking to improve your jazz technique? Learn new "tricks", jazz turns & jumps?

A great workshop for anyone who just LOVES a fun jazz class and want to improve skills. Perfect for pom squad dancers, dance team members, and cheer squad dancers. The 6-week workshop will focus on proper turn technique including center pirouettes, across the floor turns, leaps, jumps, and all with high energy.

Some jazz, ballet, or contemporary experience preferred. Come ready to learn and have fun!.

Rhythms of Bollywood Dance

A Bollywood Dance Workshop = 4 weeks of fun! Anyone can Bollywood!

If you saw the Oscar winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire" then you know Bollywood! And now YOU can Bollywood too!

The term Bollywood was created by combining two names, Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and Hollywood. Bollywood based in Mumbai is India's, and the world's, largest film industry in terms of the number of films produced. It is not unusual to see Western pop and pure classical dance numbers side by side in a Bollywood film.

With the success of films such as "Slumdog Millionaire", Bollywood films and dance have taken the world by storm. And Bollywood just makes us smile!

Bollywood Dance has various influences outside of traditional Indian dance forms and include western dance styles. Come learn some of the different Bollywood dances during the 4 weeks

Balance, Fitness & Pilates Workshops

Better Balance & Movement Workshop

Wednesdays, September 10 - October 1 / 11:15am - 12:00pm (4 weeks)

This workshop will focus on promoting and maintaining balance, coordination, and posture through a series of simple brain and muscle exercises. The goal of ongoing balance training is to teach your brain how to quickly activate the right muscles in your body at the right time to help you keep your balance.


General physical fitness and targeted exercises to improve balance can prevent falls. But so can activities that hone your cognitive fitness. A sharp mind helps you to think — and stay — on your feet. We depend on an intricate balance system to keep us upright. The inner ear, which senses head motions, plays an important role. So does the body's somatosensory system, which relays the feeling of the ground beneath your feet. And, of course, vision tips you off to obstacles around you.

The brain takes in all this information, plans movements, and carries them out.

This workshop is excellent for people of all ages, but especially beneficial to the older adult or those dealing with the affects of neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. It is also very helpful for individuals recovering from injury, experiencing declining vision, hearing and muscle strength.

Practical principles that may be carried out at home will be taught during each session.

Mommy Baby Fit - Babywearing Barre Workout

Thursdays, September 25 - October 16/ 10:45am - 11:30am (4 weeks)

Making exercise a priority is a challenge for new moms. Are you ready to get your workout in while your baby stays close?

Bring your baby and your baby carrier and head to the ballet barre for a 45-minute barre workout that offers a blend of Pilates and ballet fitness principles. Moms enjoy a low impact-toning workout while babies experience movement, rocking motions, soothing music and added time close to mom's body.

Babywearing Barre Workout is great for all fitness levels and no experience is necessary! Expecting moms who want to get a jump on their post-natal conditioning are welcome! Bring a comfortable and secure baby carrier with support for baby and mom.

Wear comfortable workout clothing, ballet shoes or sneakers, and bring a water bottle. For a most successful experience, bring your baby fed and dressed so they do not become too warm during the workout. Start early setting the "active life" example for your children!

Get back into shape and have fun while bonding with baby.

Full Body Transformation Boot Camp - A great early-morning downtown workout.

GET OUT OF BED AND PUSH YOURSELF! Pilates & fitness principles are at the "core" of this early-morning boot camp. An advanced strength & cardio workout where anything goes!

This full body workout utilizes props from jump ropes, kettle bells and weights to good old fashioned body weight drills. A challenging but fun combination of cardiovascular drills and resistance training to the beats of great music!

Designed for athletes and those looking for the benefits of crosstraining with Pilates principles and personal trainer motivation. Improve performance, reduce injury, and relieve stress. It is the perfect class before work or training.

Start to work on your new look, new attitude, and feel taller with healthier posture. Look better and feel better in just a few weeks with this yoga, dance, and Pilates based workshop.

The goal is to build our body alignment so that our bodies are healthier and better supported whether we are sitting up at a desk, washing the dishes, dancing in class or walking the red carpet. To make this workshop fun and give you principles to live by, we will use yoga and Pilates principles, and dance related strength, flexibility and awareness exercises.

Muscle Sculpting & Meditation Movement Intensive Workshop with Toni Bravo

Monday - Friday, August 18 - August 22 / 12:30pm - 2:30pm

A 5-day, 2-hour Movement and Meditation workshop that includes Body Sculpting and Movement & Meditation.

Toni Bravo has combined her research in Neuro-muscular concepts and relaxation through meditational movement with her experience in anatomically sound mobility and strength exercises. The technique aims to teach you how to become aware of your body's tension and trouble spots and how to release through careful activity and breath. It will be taught immediately after a body sculpture class. In this way your muscles will be warmed up and tone, then released and restored to work in an efficient, relaxed way!

Spend one hour sculpting muscles before moving on to an hour of movement guided meditation that will require you to stop your busy schedule, breathe and relax your body.

Join Toni Bravo and by the end of 5 days you will know more about your body, your self, and you will feel the difference.

Pilates Mat Basics Workout - This is Pilates for Beginners! (6 weeks)

Tuesdays, September 9 - October 14 / 6:15pm - 7:00pm

Pilates has become very popular and for good reason.

Our body movement originates from the center of our body and the muscles there help us to maintain our body's balance and posture. This is what Pilates is all about; core strength and flexibility, and posture.

This Pilates Mat workshop will introduce and work on the basics of Pilates and provide an affordable Pilates option. At the completion of the workshop you will not only feel the benefits, you will be ready to move on to other Pilates-based classes or consider appointments in the Pilates Center.

Working against resistance is essential to the Pilates exercises, which are designed to train the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks; the core. But you can accomplish this using either a mat, where your own body weight creates resistance, or a reformer, where pulleys and springs create resistance. By working the core muscles you improve strength and posture and develop a lean, long line.

Taught by Certified Pilates Instructor.

Pilates Pink Ribbon Post-Operative Workout

Tuesdays, September 9 - November 12 / 1:00pm - 1:45pm (10 weeks - if unable to come some weeks that is fine)

The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program is a post-operative exercise program for women recovering from breast cancer surgery. The Pink Ribbon Program will help stretch and strengthen the shoulder, chest, back, and abdominal muscles, allowing women to regain full range of motion to those areas affected by breast cancer surgery.

This program is suitable whether your surgery was recent or several years ago, but it is recommended that women should wait 4-6 weeks post op before enrolling in the course. The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program will offer strengthening, self-esteem and quality of life to breast cancer survivors. The program works in conjunction with your doctor's recommendations for an exercise program.

Personal instruction given by Vlada Sheber, Ballet Austin's Pilates Program Director & Certified Core Connections Pilates Instructor. Ms. Sheber is a Post-Rehabilitative Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist with the The Pilates Pink Ribbon Program.

PARKING: If parking is not available in Ballet Austin's lot, FREE DAYTIME PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT CITY HALL: Ballet Austin validates parking in the parking garage underneath Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second Street. The garage entrance to the City Hall parking garage is located on the East side of the building on Lavaca Street (one way street running North). Enter the garage from the left lane and follow the signs to visitor parking.
