This building will transform Ballet Austin and help transform downtown Austin.  It will convert Ballet Austin into an urban dance company and the first anchor of the new downtown Arts and Entertainment District.  It will democratize dance by making it physically and financially accessible to all of Austin up to six days every week, instead of only five weekends a year.   The Butler Dance Education Center will be an attractive but modest building that will bring 1100 dance students and their families into the midst of the new urban retail area surrounding City Hall.   Ballet Austin’s educational programs will have a venue to add dramatically to the more than 30,000 central Texas children now served yearly.  We intend to be a participating member and an integral part of our new neighborhood.

Where is the Butler Dance Education Center located?

Ballet Austin purchased the building, located at 3rd and San Antonio in the former Austex building just east of Austin Music Hall, in September 2002.  It is a great location, near the new City Hall and in the 2nd District that is presently being re-developed into a shopping area / pedestrian block.  Austin's future light rail will also have a stop next to the building.

The Butler Dance Education Center is not in competition with the Long Center.  Long Center is a necessary performance space for many arts organizations in Austin, including Ballet Austin.
