Founded in1975, the Ballet Austin Guild is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to support Ballet Austin through fundraising and educational programs.  In its 30 years of operation, the Guild has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to Ballet Austin and, more importantly, has touched the lives of thousands, from professional dancers to local elementary students, by giving the gifts of time and knowledge. Ballet Austin Guild is open to all who wish to join and share in their love of ballet, and is a very diverse group of people with male and female members ranging from their teens to their eighties.  Monthly meetings at varying venues, committee participation and special events give members a way to interact socially, while also reaching out to the dancers and staff at Ballet Austin as well as those in the greater Austin community.  Contact Us or call 512.476.9151 ext. 124 to get more information.

The Mission:
The purpose of this organization is to work together to support and promote the interests of Ballet Austin in greater Austin and surrounding communities through educational programs, fundraising, and special events.

Benefits:
Ballet Austin Docents visit Austin and surrounding area schools to introduce ballet to the students who will be attending a Ballet Austin School Show. The 45 minute presentation covers the history of ballet, the similarities of the dancer and other professional athletes, the life and training of a dancer, and the four parts of a ballet: dance, music, drama and decor. With instructions from the docents and colorful transparencies, the children eagerly participate in performing the five basic ballet position and are encouraged to ask questions, try on costumes and pointe shoes, and experience the beauty of dance. The children are told the story of Ballet Austin in order to prepare them to attend a performance of The Nutcracker. They are introduced to the characters of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince and of course, the wicked Rat King, but they must wait to see the ballet to learn what happens!

THE DOCENT PROGRAM is one of the highlights of the Guild activities. Ask any Docent and they will tell you that there is nothing quite like seeing The Nutcracker through the eyes of young children.

Membership in the Guild is open to all persons interested in supporting and contributing to the growth and success of Ballet Austin. Active membership in the Guild is a truly enriching experience. You will meet and work with some of the most friendly, fascinating and diverse people. The rewards of joining such a dynamic and talented group and sharing a common goal, is a pleasure you will want to experience for yourself.
