Our Community Education Department is your partner in exploring the world of dance.
Ballet Austin believes that the arts are most valuable to a community when supported by a network of quality educational initiatives. Ballet Austin’s Community Education Department delivers unique, interactive, educational programming designed to foster interest in and appreciation for the art of ballet.
Ballet Austin acknowledges the arts and arts education as essential elements in the educational process necessary for the intellectual and social development of all humans. Ballet Austin is committed to providing students and their teachers with arts experiences and art education, specifically in dance. Research demonstrates that students benefit socially and academically from sustained involvement in the arts, and that students in arts-rich environments have higher concepts of their academic ability, are achieving at higher rates on standardized tests, and are more engaged in schools (Catterall 1999, Heath 1999, Burton 1999). Opportunities for students and teachers are offered in the schools, at the Ballet Austin Dance Education Center, and at the theater.

Ballet Austin’s family programming provides families with opportunities to experience the arts together and helps foster a life-long appreciation for dance. We assist families with introducing their children to ballet and other art forms such as music, drama, and visual arts, and provide fun and interactive opportunities in the studio and at the theater.

Ballet Austin is dedicated to providing educational and outreach opportunities to communities throughout Central Texas, and is specifically committed to providing experiences that increase the understanding and enjoyment of the art of ballet. The arts are a critical factor in the success of community vitality and the perceived quality of life (SIEP 1998). Participants in community arts are more likely to describe their quality of life as excellent than people who do not participate in the arts. Educational and outreach opportunities are provided at Ballet Austin’s Butler Dance Education Center and at the theater.
