What makes Coppélia a comedic classic?
I can’t tell you how many times people ask me during intermission, “So what’s the ballet about?” Instead of wondering, come and explore Coppélia for yourself! See the dancers up close in rehearsals and workshops, and join me just before the performance at The Long Center if you want to hear a little history about the story, music, and choreography of Coppélia.
See excerpts from the production and do a little bit of choreography with Ballet Austin dancers during our fun and fabulous Coppélia Family Dance Workshop! Recommended for our patrons between the ages of 3 and 12 years and their families, the workshop takes place on Sunday, April 25 from 2 – 3:30pm at the Ballet Austin Butler Dance Education Center. Click here for more infomation.
Want to see and learn more but only have time during lunch or right after work? Join us for our Studio Spotlight, which will feature glimpses of Coppélia and a Q&A with Artistic staff and dancers! The rehearsal viewings take place on Wednesday, April 28 from 11:45am – 12:45pm and 5:45 – 6:45pm at Ballet Austin’s AustinVentures StudioTheater. Click here for more information.
And if you’re able to make it to the Long Center a little bit early during any Coppélia performance, join me for Footlights, a pre-show lecture and Q&A which takes place one hour prior to each curtain. During Footlights, I talk about; the origins of Coppélia, including the history of the story, music, and choreography; the artists involved in bringing the production to the stage; and behind-the-scenes information that you won’t learn anywhere else! Click here for more information.
