Hamlet Returns After Cross-Country Tour
By Lance Johnson, Marketing Director

Debuting in October of 2000 to rave reviews, this production has been Ballet Austin and Stephen Mills’ most successful ballet. After traveling across the country we bring it back home to Austin this Valentine’s weekend (Feb 13-15).

The visually arresting sets accompanied by Armani-esque attire and music of Philip Glass combine for a powerful work that tells Shakespeare’s tale in a way that I believe he would be proud.  Mr. Mills created the 85-minute dance work in his first year as artistic director and it has had legs of its own ever since.

Having been performed by five companies including Atlanta Ballet, BalletMet Columbus, Dayton Ballet, Ohio Ballet, and Milwaukee Ballet the work has received rave reviews in every city in which it has performed.

The Plains Dealer of Cleveland called Mills’ Hamlet, “The finest full-length story ballet in Ohio Ballet’s 34-year history”.

Dance magazine says, “…excellent dance theater in a highly conceptual, stylish portrayal of Shakespeare's tragedy.”

While the Dallas Morning News proclaimed, “A more dramatic modern ballet is hard to imagine”.

Whether you have seen everything that Ballet Austin has done over the last several years or you have never caught one of our productions, you owe it to yourself to catch this spectacle of a show. For more information on Hamlet, click here.
