Your passion makes ours possible!
By Sean Henry, Partner Level Donor
In 2004, my wife and I attended our very first ballet, Stephen Mills’ Midsummer Night’s Dream. From the cheap seats at Bass Concert Hall, we were completely mesmerized. We knew then that this company was a true gift to Central Texas, and that we needed to do something—anything—to support it.
We began modestly with a $25 donation. With a matching gift, that donation became $50 (which we joked would probably pay for one pointe shoe!) Still, without that shoe, the ballet could not go on. The spark of our initial donation stirred a fire so strong that we now give at the Partner level, including a gift to the Ballet Austin Academy.
Ballet Austin says: “Your passion makes ours possible.” Over time, we have been struck by what a warm and welcoming group of diverse individuals the artists and executive team is. It is easy to forget that behind the costumes, characters, stage makeup, and graceful movements are real people. Real people who have devoted their lives to dance, not for monetary gain, but to live a dream of expressing themselves through movement and to share their passion and the beauty of their art with others. As audience members and donors, we are not mere consumers of art, but active participants. We help bring dreams to life.
Though times are tough economically, we are doing what we can to support Ballet Austin. George Bernard Shaw wrote: “Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable.”
Contributions at every level make a difference and support our mission to create, nurture and share the gift of dance. Click here for more information.
